This week we have continued working with our skill leveled groups on fractions. There are five students who are excelling in fractions and four who are still struggling very much. I have made different worksheets and activities for these students to help them remember the strategies we have been using since we began this chapter. This relates to Standard 1 and 3. It seems we are going to be on this for a lot longer than anticipated.
Moving forward with reading and comparing, setting, plot, and theme the students began working with their partners to utilize this comprehension strategy. They have been doing amazing at this and I am very impressed with their work on this. They should be just fine working independently at the end of next week. Their success relates to Standard 2 and 6.
We have been doing more land form reading on Epic Reading online and the students have been able to find interesting facts to write in their social studies notebook on each. The students enjoy listening to reading and are engaged in these lessons. We have also incorporated activities for Earth Day. We have read The Lorax, did activities based on that, and they were able to watch The Lorax movie.
The students have finally finished writing their biographies. They did pretty well on this assignment overall and only a few of the students needed constant assistance on writing the answers into sentences. They now are picking items for their portfolios for the school. We are almost done with that. This assignment meets standards 6 and 7.

Dear Harris,
ReplyDeleteI wish you continued success as you move onward to the next phase on this journey of teaching. It is a career that involves much care, dedication, concern and knowledge as you are accountable for the academic lives of many young lives. I have always seen teaching as a service to others and myself as a servant in the work. It is important as you serve others that you also find balance and take care of yourself; physically, mentally, renewing your practices and sharpening your saw. Remember, “whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” Colossians 3:23.
Best wishes!
Dr. Austin
