The Monday of week 3 was a change because there was a substitute that day. I did all of my morning checks as I have been doing since last week, but since there was a sub I felt like I was doing much more. The sub was still in control of the class, but this was my first experience of disciplining the students. They were more disruptive today than I have ever seen before, and I am sure it has something to do with the teacher not being there. I was thankful for the sub we had because she was a retired teacher who worked at that school for many years and she was very helpful and has subbed this class before. We made it through the day with only one student having to write a behavior reflection sheet. Moving forward in the week, I still took charge of policing the reading, fluency checks, and sharing their work to the rest of the class. Week 2 of student teaching was a good transition from week 1. I started taking attendance, hot lunch count, morning assignment signature check, and even started grading math worksheets. During their morning work I would also walk around and help. I was in charge of calling groups to the carpet and back to their seats as well. During their reading, I took charge of policing their reading, checking for fluency, and reading their papers. Their whole reading routine they have in the class is amazing and relates to Standard 6 Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication. They love to read to the class and to each other, and more often than not volunteer willingly. At the end of the day on Thursday and all day Friday we had 10 students from the other third grade class come to our class because their teacher had to leave. Week 1 of student teaching was a great start to the semester. I mostly was observing the teacher and the students for this week. After the first day, I would walk around and help or answer questions students had on the work. My cooperating teacher was still fully in charge, but was very helpful in explaining what she was doing. During the student's special times and lunch we were able to talk about topics more in detail and she was able to show me exactly what they were doing, why, and how they got to this level. After this first week, I basically figured out the routine my class has. They begin the day with morning work that is related to math then continue with math that goes all the way until 10:15 which is either gym or music. After that is reading and writing.
